Self-Calibration via Linear Least Squares
نویسندگان
چکیده
Whenever we use devices to take measurements, calibration is indispensable. While the purpose of calibration is to reduce bias and uncertainty in the measurements, it can be quite difficult, expensive and sometimes even impossible to implement. We study a challenging problem called self-calibration, i.e., the task of designing an algorithm for devices so that the algorithm is able to perform calibration automatically. More precisely, we consider the setup y = A(d)x + ε where only partial information about the sensing matrix A(d) is known and where A(d) linearly depends on d. The goal is to estimate the calibration parameter d (resolve the uncertainty in the sensing process) and the signal/object of interests x simultaneously. For three different models of practical relevance we show how such a bilinear inverse problem, including blind deconvolution as an important example, can be solved via a simple linear least squares approach. As a consequence, the proposed algorithms are numerically extremely efficient, thus allowing for real-time deployment. Explicit theoretical guarantees and stability theory are derived and the number of sampling complexity is nearly optimal (up to a poly-log factor). Applications in imaging sciences and signal processing are discussed and numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our approach.

متن کاملDynamic camera self-calibration from controlled motion sequences
In order to recover camera motion and 3-d structure from a sequence of images we must rst relate points in the image plane to directions in space. This paper describes a least-squares algorithm for computing camera calibration from a series of motion sequences for which the translational direction of the camera is known. The method does not require special calibration objects or scene structure...
متن کاملSimultaneous spectrophotometric determination of lead, copper and nickel using xylenol orange by partial least squares
A partial least squares (PLS) calibration model was developed for the simultaneous spectrophotometricdetermination of Pb (ΙΙ), Cu (ΙΙ) and Ni (ΙΙ) using xylenol orange as a chromogenic reagent. The parameterscontrolling behavior of the system were investigated and optimum conditions were selected. The calibrationgraphs were linear in the ranges of 0.0–9.091, 0.0–2.719 and 0.0–2.381 ppm for lead...

متن کاملAutomatic Robot Calibration for the NAO
In this paper, we present an automatic approach for the kinematic calibration of the humanoid robot NAO. The kinematic calibration has a deep impact on the performance of a robot playing soccer, which is walking and kicking, and therefore it is a crucial step prior to a match. So far, the existing calibration methods are time-consuming and error-prone, since they rely on the assistance of human...
